♦ Museum ♦Take a trip through history! The Anoka County History Center and Library is the home for many of Anoka County’s most treasured artifacts and stories. A self-guided tour through the museum will provide delights for the whole family—from learning about the earliest days of Anoka County’s farming history to looking at 150 images that tell the story of Anoka County’s 150 years of history. Museum admission is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children. Members are free and groups of 15 or more receive a discount.
♦Archives & Manuscripts♦There are over 5000 photographs of county places and people available at the History Center Reference Library. The Library and Archives have thousands of letters, diaries, personal papers, newspapers, obituaries, and much, much more! A librarian is always on hand to help you research your ancestors, complete a house history, or read more about events in our community’s past.
♦Circulating Library♦The History Center also houses a small branch of the Anoka County Library system. Our circulating library is stocked with fiction, children’s books, community newspapers, and magazines. You can check out books at our self-check machine and return books from any part of the County Library system. In addition, you can request any title in the Library’s system from our internet terminals and pick it up at the History Center.
♦Events♦The Historical Society presents many great events throughout the year, from exhibition openings to walking tours. In March, we hold our annual meeting at an off-site location of historical interest. In the summer and fall, we offer our Ghosts of Anoka Tours. These walking tours of downtown Anoka and its surrounding neighborhoods share rich local history and a few chilling and unexplained tales. These tours are great for large and small groups. In the fall ACHS holds its annual Harvest Time Barn Dance. With great food, music, silent and live auctions, this has become an annual treat and an important fundraiser for the Society. Watch your community calendar or check out
www.ac-hs.org for more information on our events schedule.
♦Programs♦History delivered to your door! We have several history programs developed that your local school, Scout group, or civic organizations can request for meetings, bus tours, or special events. A historian in authentic costume will present on a local history topic using photographs and artifacts of the time. You can also request a special program about a topic of particular interest to your group. Costs vary depending upon the program.
♦Membership♦Consider becoming a member of ACHS to receive all the latest news and happenings and to help save our county history. We are a registered nonprofit organization and any contribution helps! Membership rates are as follows: Family, $25; Individual, $15; Senior Citizen (62+), $7; Student (age 6-17), $7.
