City of Ramsey

The City of Ramsey boasts the best of a mix between urban and rural character, bordered to the east by the Rum River and to the south by the Mississippi River. The natural resources, mix of housing choices, and location along two major highway corridors make Ramsey an excellent destination for many.

The City of Ramsey moved to a new Municipal Center in October of 2006 in the heart of Ramsey Town Center. This centerpiece of the Ramsey Town Center development serves as home to City Hall, Police, and Fire Administration and is complete with space for use of the public as well. The largest of these conference rooms, the Alexander Ramsey Room, can hold upwards of 100 people and also serves as the official Emergency Operations Center. Please call the Ramsey Municipal Center for more information on renting meeting room space in the facility.

Excitement continues to grow around Ramsey Town Center as new opportunities develop, new tenants arrive, and great community events such as Happy Days flourish in this mixed-use, transit oriented development.  Ramsey Town Center is a unique 320 acre master-planned community along Highway 10. Proposed new facilities in Ramsey Town Center include Crest View Senior Communities, Anoka County  Community Action Program (ACCAP) Apartments, and the Anoka County Medical Examiner's office.  The Anoka County Medical Examiner's office is proposed to serve not only Anoka County, but several surrounding communities as well.  Already complete within Town Center includes a mix of housing, a commercial corner complete with restaurants and grocery store, and K-12 PACT Charter School.  Ramsey Town Center is becoming a destination for people to work, shop, and live and hopes to have a complete spectrum of life-cycle housing, shopping and working opportunities.

A public ramp is available as a multi-modal transit station for Town Center visitors, tenants and riders of the new express commuter coach service, the Ramsey Star Express. Service began on the Ramsey Star Express after much anticipation in January of 2007 and ridershipcontinues to grow.  The Ramsey Star Express is an express route from Ramsey Town Center (7650 Sunwood Drive) to Downtown Minneapolis using coach buses complete with comfortable, reclining seats. The Ramsey Star Express is operated in cooperation with the Northstar Commuter Coach.  For more information on the Ramsey Star Express, visit www.commutercoach.org or call 1-888-528-8880. Ramsey envisions a future stop on the Northstar Commuter Rail at the existing Transit Station in Town Center.

A variety of housing options, commercial and industrial development opportunities continue to flourish south of the Trott Brook. An increasing number of people call Ramsey home. Ramsey's staff is ready and willing to work with businesses to ensure growth of living-wage jobs in the city as well as managing growth of the tax base for Ramsey.

Ramsey's natural resources are not lost through this urban development. Many were attracted to Ramsey because of its beautiful wetlands and open plains. Ramsey continues to protect these natural resources by expanding greenways and park land and miles of trails.  Ramsey has embarked on a Natural Resources Inventory in an attempt to further protect these precious resources. Ramsey envisions continued
growth, fostering development without losing the character of its natural amenities. A broad range of recreational opportunities can be found at one of Ramsey's many parks including Central, Elmcrest, and River's Bend parks. Ramsey is also home to two championship golf courses; The Links at North Fork and Rum River Hills Golf Course.

The City of Ramsey is host to a variety of amazing annual community events including the Ramsey Lion's Picnic in June, Safety Camp in June, Recycling Days in Spring and Fall, Business Appreciation Day at one of the community's golf courses in August, and the Happy Days celebration in September.  Happy Days includes a craft fair, car  show, parade, numerous children's activities, and a street dance.  Happy Days will also hold fireworks for the first time in 2007.
