City of Champlin
With a population of 24,900, Champlin is a third ring suburb situated along the southern banks of the Mississippi River. History books suggest that Champlin was the site where the French explorer Father Louis Hennepin first crossed the Mississippi River in 1680. Father Hennepin is most famous for discovering St. Anthony Falls and the City of Minneapolis. Today, the community celebrates its heritage with the annual Father Hennepin Festival held in June.
Over the past decade, market pressures, competitive advantages and a great strategic location have made Champlin a hot spot for development. The City has several hundred acres of residential development underway with a variety of housing types and styles.
The City continues to attract commercial developments that expand the community's quality of life. Over the past few years, the City has welcomed Lifetime Fitness (Highway 169 & 120th Avenue), a 14-screen Mann Theatre (Highway 169 & Elm Creek Parkway ) and Super Target (Highway 169 & 120th Avenue).
Also serving the community's needs are an array of public facilities including a branch of the Hennepin County Library, the Ice Forum at Champlin, and the U.S. Post Office. The community's educational needs are met by the Anoka-Hennepin School District, the second largest school district and one of the best managed districts in the state.
With over 300 acres of city parks, miles of walking and biking trails, a 5,400-acre regional park (Elm Creek Regional Park), and the Mississippi River, the recreational needs of Champlin's residents are well served. Elm Creek is the largest suburban park in the Hennepin County Park system and provides hiking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, in-line skating, swimming and biking opportunities.
